Smania photographs furnishings for outdoor swimming pools in the elegant setting of Duino

The location selected for the second outdoor shooting is spectacular and prestigious, just like Smania’s outdoor swimming pool furnishings. The 17th century setting of villa di Valsanzibio, selected for the first photographic service, has been followed by a more modern space, capable of representing contemporary style, seamlessly combined with a classical flavour, as embodied by Smania furnishings.


Poolside and garden furnishings of the outdoor collection presented at the Salone del Mobile 2017 will be photographed today in an exclusive abode located in Duino (Ts), with views of the Gulf of Trieste, immersed in the Karst plateau. The villa with swimming pool distinguishes itself in virtue of its sumptuous dehors: spacious balconies refreshed by surrounding woods, spaces carved out of the white rocks of Duino’s cliffs. The perfect setting for elegant poolside furnishings by Smania.
For example, the colours of Maratea, luxury poolside sofas, recall the intense blue of the Adriatic Sea and blinding white of Friuli’s cliffs; steel details of Alghero tables evoke the luminous reflexes of sun-kissed waters.


This special environment, where the forest gradually gives way to the Mediterranean maquis, dotted with light rocks overlooking the sea, was not the only reason for selecting Duino as a location. The city is characterised by an illustrious, noble history, symbolised by the castle of the princes of Thurn and Taxis, dating back to 1300. The location exudes exclusivity, constituting the ideal setting for Smania’s classy furniture. The castle is home to precious artistic treasures and has hosted illustrious authors such as Gabriele D’Annunzio, Mark Twain and Rainer Maria Rilke.
The latter dedicated a literary work to Duino: the Duino Elegies. A lyrical collection embracing a series of topics. We were particularly struck by the ninth elegy, truly confirming Duino as the perfect location:


But because truly being here is so much;
because everything here apparently needs us, this fleeting world, which in some strange way
strangely concerns us. Us, the most transient of all beings.
